The best spots to watch An Rás Mór this year (and everything else happening around it)

By Yay Cork May 25, 2026May 26, 2026

Our city motto means ‘a safe harbour for ships’.

And there’ll be maritime action aplenty in Cork this weekend; The Cork Harbour Festival 2026 is back from May 30th to June 8th, bringing ten days of events across the city and harbour—from water sports and boat tours to live music, walks, and family-friendly activities.

The highlight is Ocean to City – An Rás Mór on May 30th, where more than 500 participants and 200 boats race 28km through the harbour to Cork City—easily one of the most exciting days on the summer calendar.

New Race Hub to transform Kennedy Quay (1pm-6pm)

For the first time, Ocean to City will feature a dedicated Race Hub on Kennedy Quay, transforming the waterfront into a vibrant festival space along the final stretch of the race.

Supported by Fáilte Ireland, the new marquee and public event space will give spectators a front-row view of crews battling to the finish line, while also offering a full day of free, family-friendly entertainment. With live music, food stalls, circus performers, street entertainment, family games and a pop-up playground, Kennedy Quay is set to become one of the highlights of the June Bank Holiday weekend.

Live music will continue throughout the afternoon and evening with performances from DJ Stevie G, The Roaring 40s, Rebel Brass and The Last Call, followed by a lively waterfront céilí celebration. The Race Hub will also feature picnic seating, creating a welcoming festival atmosphere for participants, families and spectators alike.

Where to watch the race

If you’re planning to catch An Rás Mór this Saturday, knowing where to watch it is half the battle—and luckily, Cork Harbour has no shortage of unreal viewing points.

So where should you actually go? Here are the spots worth heading for:

Cobh

One of the earliest chances to catch the race as boats make their way through the harbour. It’s wide, scenic, and gives you a proper sense of the scale before things spread out.

Monkstown

A solid mid-route option. You’ll get a closer look at the action here as crews start to settle into their rhythm—and it’s usually a bit less hectic than the city end.

Blackrock

This is where things start to get interesting. The race tightens up as paddlers push toward the finish, and the atmosphere along the water tends to build nicely.

 Lapp’s Quay & Kennedy Quay

The main event. If you want energy, crowds, and a proper race-day buzz, this is it. From 1pm to 6pm, the finish line turns into a full-on festival with live music, food stalls, street entertainment, and live commentary as crews cross the line.

And that’s just one part of what’s happening.

The wider festival runs from  May 30th to June 8th and brings over 100 events across the harbour—from sailing and kayaking to walking tours, live music, art, and some more unusual bits like seaweed baths and seafood trails.

You’ll find things happening all over town, but if you’re only picking one day to head out? Make it’s race day—and pick your viewing spot wisely.
