Tea Cosy Michael Collins will keep your cuppa warm for you this winter

What form will he take next?
After all of the excitement surrounding the unveiling of the Michael Collins statue on Grand Parade, the streets have been buzzing at the sight of the famous Irish commander-in-chief.
The Corkman has been immortalised in various forms over the years- there are now two statues of Michael in Cork city and one in his native Clonakilty which is perched across from the Michael Collins House Museum on Emmet Square- and now he’s been re-imagined in the form of a tea cosy.
Crocheter Susan Banks, whose previous pint-sized creations include the famous Michael D Higgins cosy, has been selling her woolly wares to fans for years. Her impressive collection includes a vast array of characters and animals as well as famous faces like Elvis, Harry Potter and Princess Leia.
Now, the crochet master has made the big fella into the little fella by hand-stitching a new creation using a famous photo as a reference.

“I can remember doing the craft fairs with my mother and so many people commented on our stall by saying “Why make tea cosies, no one uses them”,” recounted Susan’s daughter Rachel on Instagram.
“It’s a good job we didn’t listen to them,” she added.

A good job indeed. The Michael Collins tea cosy will surely be a big hit in his native Cork and will be a big hit for Christmas.
The cosies are available to purchase through Instagram, simply DM to make your purchase.
