6 Independent Cork jewellers you should be following

There have never been so many independent creators.
From Etsy to Instagram or even Pinterest, there are many ways to find handmade and unique pieces by local makers.
But because they are small and independent, they don’t have a huge marketing budget to tell the world about their creations. So although their beautiful pieces exist, they can be very hard to find organically.
Luckily, we have put together a list of some Cork jewellers who have caught our attention so you can add a unique piece to your budding collection or find a gift for your locally-made-lovin’ family member or friend.
1. ÁLAINN
Álainn is a silversmithing and jewellery design studio based in West Cork. A zero-waste business, owner Lyndsey recycles every silver scrap left after making each piece, all unique in shape and size and inspired by the bright and dark colours in the environment- making them a true reflection of the world of West Cork.
Lyndsey is very eco-conscious too and has made sure that her company’s packaging is sustainable and fully recyclable.

2. 37 Blackbirds
The motif of nature is very prominent in the work of 37 Blackbirds who use traditional silversmithing techniques in silver metal clay.
The creator, Anastasia Stepnova, first started making pieces in 2015, inspired by the natural world and all its characters. Leaf patterns appear again and again in Anastasia’s work as well as small animals such as birds and rabbits which appear on necklaces and rings.
“Including natural elements in my pieces reminds me of the soothing effect of being in nature, and is also a way to recreate the “keepsake” ritual,” she said. It’s like when you bring a perfect pebble or shell home from the beach- but you get to wear it.

3. Julas Jewellery
Based in Cork, Jurate Lasuke creates jewellery using soutache, bead embroidery, and crochet techniques. The colourful designs reflect the inspirations of the artist which include visual, modern, and surreal arts, her travels, and nature itself.
As well as earrings, Jurate creates bracelets, necklaces, bags, headbands and rings- all crafted in intricate design. Julas Jewellery is definitely the place to go if you’re looking for a statement piece.

4. On the Verge
Virginia aka Virg took a huge step: after losing her secure job in IT, she booked a ticket struck off for India and created her own jewellery brand which she had been nursing on the side for many a year.
Inspired by the vibrancy of the country, Virginia goes back and forth each year to collect materials and work with a team on the ground who help her source and create her designs. On the Verge boasts a gorgeous array of colourful earrings, necklaces and kimono-style jackets. You can find Virg at On the Verge at markets around the county as well as online.

5. Jenti Forest
Jenti Forest aims to strike the right balance between sentiment and ornament and these beautiful creations have us yearning for the entire collection. The romantic settings, colourful but subtle gem selection and almost mysterious execution of each piece make them the perfect gift for someone close to your heart.
It’s no wonder that Jenti is commissioned to create custom wedding bands for couples. Necklaces, earrings, and rings are available from Jenti Forest with a distinctly Irish feel.
