Take the ferry to Sherkin Island for a buggy-friendly family Fun Run

By Yay Cork August 1, 2025August 1, 2025

It’s the perfect excuse to escape to Sherkin for the day.

Sherkin Island is calling all runners, walkers, and coastal wanderers for the return of its much-loved summer fun run: The Do Run Run 2025, happening on Saturday, August 9th from 2:30pm to 4pm.

Now in its seventh year, the community fundraiser is part trail adventure, part island day out—and 100% good vibes. Whether you’re a seasoned runner, a power-walking parent pushing a buggy, or simply want to stretch the legs before settling into a picnic on the beach, there’s a route to suit your pace.

You can choose from three different options—a 4km buggy-friendly road route (with dreamy views over to the Mizen), a 6km off-road trail, or the full 8km for those wanting to earn their post-run pint.

All money raised goes to two brilliant local causes: a new hybrid Local-Link bus for Sherkin Island, and the Wild Atlantic Community Pool in nearby Baltimore. So every sweaty kilometre counts.

“Do Run Run isn’t just about running—it’s about bringing people together to enjoy Sherkin’s natural beauty and community spirit,” says organiser Aisling Moran.

Coming from the mainland? Ferries from Baltimore depart at 12:00 and 14:00, so you’ve plenty of time to arrive, soak up the atmosphere, and warm up before the main event.

Better still, the first 100 sign-ups get a free event T-shirt—a collector’s item for repeat runners and a perfect souvenir if it’s your first time. Tickets are available now on Eventbrite (€12/€8 + booking), and kids under five go free.

Dogs on leads are welcome too, so no need to leave your four-legged training partner behind.
