Swifts are in trouble. Find out how to help at this free Cork city birdwatching evening

They’re mesmerising creatures.
Now nature enthusiasts, curious minds, and anyone who’s ever been fascinated by the acrobatic feats of a swift can join a free birdwatching event happening right here in the city, and it’s all about these incredible feathered friends.
This Monday, July 15th, you can lace up your walking shoes, and get ready to learn everything you ever wanted to know about swifts in their urban habitat.
The swift is on the Red list of birds of conservation concern in Ireland because its population has declined by over 40 per cent in the last 15 years. Conservation actions across the country are helping to recover populations.
This is also a bird that is faithful to its nest site; once a swift has found a place to nest, they will return to it every year for the rest of their lives.

Cork City Council Biodiversity Officers, Usna and Rosemarie will be leading the group, alongside Noel Linehan from Swift Conservation Ireland, who will introduce an evening of birdwatching and some interesting facts about swifts.
Children are welcome but must be accompanied by an adult. Participants are asked to gather at 7pm on Monday at the entrance to St Finbarr’s Hospital on Douglas Road. You can email: rosemarie_mcdonald@corkcity.ie for more information.
