Support Your Local Queens: Cork’s drag stars are planning a free party for fans

You can’t keep a good girl down.
When life throws you shade, the only reasonable response is to get back in the spotlight.
After this week’s controversy at Chambers, which saw management remove all LGBTQ+ signage, displays, iconography, and branding from the bar, there were mass resignations from Cork queens in protest and a call to action for the community to boycott the venue.
Now, performers are rallying the posse to host a star-studded celebration of the LGBTQ+ community in Cork.
In an apparent dig at the Chambers rebranded Freshers night “Sinners”, D’Beours and K&TQ have gathered some of Cork’s finest performers, DJs, and queer professionals for a night of community, togetherness, and support which they have aptly named “Saints”.
“This will be one of the first weeks without local drag gracing the scene of Cork, and this is our outright promise that we will continue to provide safe and inclusive environments for our people to dance, love, and express themselves – despite any heinous obstacles out before us,” said Queen Lucina and Krystal Queer on Instagram, who both retired their weekly shows in Chambers this week.
“This is our adamant refusal of complacency.”
“The past few days have been incredibly draining, demotivating, and demoralising – however we hope to use the power of QUEER JOY to drown out every iota of hateful metric that may be launched against us.
This is a totally free event, and we beg of each and every one of you who has supported us in making a stand to do so by joining us.”

Saints will take place in the Oyster Tavern at 8.30pm on Wednesday, September 20th.
Participants will be invited to raise a glass to the future of the gay scene in Cork at 10pm and dance the night away.
