Storm Kathleen advice: ‘Stay high, stay dry and stay away from the coast, river and lakes’

Storm Kathleen is barrelling our way.
With winds already picking up in West Cork and a Status Orange Wind warning in place for Cork, Kerry, Waterford, Galway, and Mayo from 7am on Saturday morning to 5pm that evening, Cork County Council has advised members of the public to “stay high, stay dry and stay away from the coast, rivers and lakes. ”
Met Éireann says that Storm Kathleen will bring some severe and damaging gale-force southerly winds.
“With strong gusts and high waves predicted, people are urged to refrain from visiting coastal areas.” said a County Council spokesperson.
“Cork County Council wishes to advise road users to be aware of the danger posed by high winds and to be aware of any surface debris. Motorists are also asked to be especially conscious of cyclists and pedestrians.
Dursey Cable Car will be closed on Saturday April 6th and will return to operation only when wind speeds permit and following inspection if necessary.

As we wait for Storm Kathleen to show up on Saturday, the remainder of Friday will be cloudy and rather blustery day with scattered showers throughout.
“Some sunny spells will develop this afternoon as the showers become more isolated. Highs of 11 to 13 degrees.” said a forecaster.
