If you’re reading this on your laptop, look down.
See all those smears and stains and… bits?
Turns out that seemingly inconsequential bit of everyday dirt has the potential to make you quite ill indeed.
A 2016 study revealed that your laptop keyboard could be home to more nasty germs than your toilet seat.
In fact, the average laptop is 20,000 times dirtier than a loo seat. Not great news if you regularly eat lunch in front of your laptop.
Smartphone users aren’t immune either; the average phone is more than 9,000 times filthier than a toilet seat.
According to this study, the most common nasties found on keyboards is gram-positive cocci, the bacteria behind strep and staph infections.
The next most common bacteria was bacilli, the usual culprit in food poisoning.
Before you rip your laptop from the wall and fling it into the bin, there is another solution to de-gunk your computer first.
Turn off the laptop and gently run an antibacterial wipe across the keys, being careful to remove any crumbs or sticky marks.
Repeat a few times a week.
