This is worth skipping your sleep-in for.
My Hot Spot, Cork’s newest beach sauna, is now open in Youghal, and in the coming weeks, you’ll be able to team your session with a relaxing sunrise yoga class.
While €10 sauna sessions are available every half hour (10am to 4pm daily) if you fancy a muscle-melting blast of heat before a bracing dip in the sea, the weekends will offer even more opportunities for a chill trip to Redbarn Strand.
Last Sunday, yogi Vashti led the first group in a soothing hour of stretching, sweating and meditation between saltwater swims.
“We had a stand-up stretch this morning, a quick dip and into the sauna.” she shared on Instagram.
“Straight into a five-minute body scan, which was amazing just to relax the heart after that refreshing dip and get us focused on our breath.”
According to Vashti, the heat of the sauna creates the ideal atmosphere for meditation, even if you usually find it difficult to relax and slow your thoughts:
“Some people think sitting in a sauna is easy, and maybe it is for some more than others, but after about ten minutes your heart rate will start to rise and you will begin to sweat. This very state is what makes it so powerful for meditation,” she explained.
“Your mind will be relatively clear, regardless of whether you’re meditating or not.”
