Do you dream of opening your front door onto a picture-book seaside scene?

The Long Strand Nests are a pair of adorable holiday cottages perched on a tranquil slope above Castlefreke’s Long Strand.

About twenty minutes outside Clonakilty, the wooden beach bungalow incorporates two identical apartments that share a stunning verandah – perfect balcony seats to the unique panorama of the beach below.

If it’s a digital detox you crave, this is the spot. There is no television or wifi, and no noise or light pollution.

Each gorgeously rustic chalet has two elevated platform double beds, accessed by ladders.

The simple kitchen is perfect for brewing up the weekend coffee and there’s a cute bathroom (the shower is clad in cedar roof shingles) and a wood-burning stove to warm you up if you venture into the sea for a swim or a surf.

There are brilliant walking trails on the nearby Freke Estate, where you can also see the gothic mansion of Castlefreke, built in 1870 on the site of a 15th century tower house.

If you don’t fancy cooking, The Fish Basket cafe nearby serves West Cork Coffee and opens for breakfast from 10am, serving right up to 8pm on Saturdays and 6pm on Sundays.

The best bit? At €95 per night, a stay at the Long Strand Nests is more affordable than a hotel break… and the views are ten times better.
