Saved from dereliction and carefully restored, Killee Cottage is now accepting guests

Planning a picture-perfect mini-break?
If long walks in the Galtee Mountains and local cheese toasties in front of a wood-burning stove sound like your idea of getaway heaven, there’s a unique property with your name on it nestled in the foothills.
Located just outside Mitchelstown, Killee Cottage was saved from dereliction by the Irish Landmark Trust and now operates as a holiday hideaway.
“Abandoned for decades, this charming cottage had fallen into disrepair. We saw its potential and took on the challenge of restoring it to its former glory.” the Trust explained in an Instagram post.
“We rethatched the roof, restored the original hearth opening (complete with its original bressummer beam), and gave the entire cottage a loving makeover.”
Inside, the adorable pink property boasts one cosy double bedroom, a comfy living area with a full kitchen, and a modern bathroom. Towels and linens are provided too – all you need to bring is some goodies to enjoy during your stay.
Set in the heart of the Golden Vale, an area renowned for cheese and butter production, you’ll find plenty of artisan food to stock your larder locally.
There’s no shortage of things to keep you busy nearby, from strolls in the Galtee Mountains to the stunning Doneraile Estate. The property also accepts one dog per booking, so you can bring a canine companion on your adventure.
You can book Killee Cottage from €380 for two nights here.
