Ring, Ring! Cork telephonists want to reconnect with colleagues for a special reunion

The call has gone out.
Cork telephonists are hoping to gather as many people as they can for a major reunion happening in the city later this month.
Telephonists played a very important role in connecting phone calls for people in Cork before the days of automation. They would have connected people not just in Cork but all over the world, with hundreds of telephonists working in the GPO in Cork city and in sub-exchanges around the county.
They are now looking to hold a reunion of people who worked in the various offices in Cork city and county so that they can gather, share stories and catch-up.
The reunion will take place at the Jazz Bar in the Briar Rose, Douglas on Sunday, October 19th from 2pm to 6pm. The organisers are Ger Hall, Mary Randles and Mary Fuller.
“We are hoping that as many telephonists who worked in Cork will be able to attend so that we can all meet once again and share some stories. We want to make this reunion one to remember so please do get in touch or even just come on the night if you would like to attend,” said Ger Hall.
Anyone who would like to attend can contact Ger Hall for further details on 087 2020020.
