One of Cork’s most notorious crimes.
Murder at the Cottage: The Search for Justice for Sophie is set to drop on NOW TV and Sky Crime on June 20th.
The hotly anticipated five-part series, directed and narrated by the Academy Award-nominated Jim Sheridan, will explore the story of Cork’s most notorious murders — the death of Sophie Toscan du Plantier — using never-before-seen footage and new testimony.
The 39-year-old was beaten to death near her holiday home in Schull back in 1996. “People want answers, they want conclusions, they want to be able to lay Sophie to rest,” says Sheridan in the series trailer.
The murder of Toscan du Plantier, a French television producer and mother, has recently been the subject of popular Audible podcast West Cork, and a Netflix documentary, titled A Murder In West Cork.
Nobody has ever been charged with the crime in Ireland. A French court tried and convicted Cork-based English writer Ian Bailey in absentia, but the Irish High Court has ruled that Bailey cannot be extradited to France.
