One of Cork’s most atmospheric cinemas is showing five classic films in August

He’s one of the most controversial directors to work in US cinema.
Now Cork film fans can take in five iconic Paul Verhoeven films in one month of movie magic at the Triskel on South Main Street, Cork City this summer.
Triskel Arts Centre is presenting a season of films dedicated to the Dutch director, beginning on Saturday, August 3rd, 2024 with movies screened over five consecutive Saturdays.

Known for his often violent and sexually explicit content, frequently laced with social satire, Verhoeven gained recognition in his native Netherlands with popular films like the TV series Floris (1969) and the drama Turkish Delight (1973), which was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Film.
Stardom beckoned when he transitioned to Hollywood in the 1980s and directed a string of successful science fiction films like RoboCop (1987), Total Recall (1990), Starship Troopers (1997), and Hollow Man (2000). He also directed the controversial erotic thriller Basic Instinct (1992).
