One of Cork City’s most treasured antique shops is closing down

It’ll be a real shame to lose it.
One of Cork’s most unique and authentic sellers of antiques, vintage furniture and curios is closing down.
Salvagem on MacCurtain Street specialises in fine antiques.traditional upholstery and restoration, thrilling treasure hunters with the odd vintage Turkmen rug, quirky clock or exotic ornament.
Alongside its marvellous stock, the storefront is one of the prettiest in the city, adding charm and character to the street. Sadly, owner Michael Wall reports that there are too many obstacles in the way to keep the business open, including a proposed rent hike.
“It is with regret that I must announce that Salvagem is to close this September.” Michael announced to fans of the store on Instagram.

“My time here at No.’s 6 & 7 MacCurtain St. has come to an end. I would like to thank each and every one of you who have crossed the threshold of Salvagem HQ for your support and patronage.
“I will find it especially difficult to leave this shop given that Andrew MacDonagh, my good friend DJ Fork, who turned this place around with me, passed away here in 2021. His spirit has always remained here, and that will be so very sad to finally say goodbye,” he added.
Michael has plans to move Salvagem’s business online so follow his social media feeds for updates.
