New in town?
If you’ve just arrived in Cork or you’ve recently moved into a new neighbourhood, you might not be familiar with the local pathways and parks that are within your 5km ‘Level 5’ travel limit.
Cork County Council’s Rediscover Cork County- GIS Tourism Map is an interactive tool that will show you what’s available to do and see within your chosen area up to a radius of 100km (strictly 5km until early December) under several categories.
It’s simple to use; you just enter your address in the ‘What’s Near Me?’ box in the upper right-hand corner of the screen, click the magnifying glass icon to search and the app provides a list of things to see and do within 5km of your doorstep.
During ‘Level 5’, much of the cultural attractions and ‘Family Fun’ options are closed but the ‘Walking and Cycling’ category will list the local routes in your area, with directions and links to websites for specific parks and amenities.
You might even find a new walk you haven’t tried before.
Other information, such as whether the route is close to a football pitch of woodland, and a selection of handy maps are also provided.
You don’t need to worry about biting off more than you can chew exercise-wise either; walks deemed to be on the easy side are marked on the map in yellow, moving to blue for ‘moderate’ and red for ‘strenuous’ so you can choose the ideal route for your abilities.
