Mother’s Day: 5 places to pick up a gorgeous brunch, lunch or dinner box

By Yay Cork March 9, 2021March 9, 2021

It’s around the corner, people.

Sunday, March 14th is Mother’s Day, so whether you’ll be celebrating with your own mum, sending a socially-distanced doorstep surprise or marking the occasion with your kids, now is the time to plan something special.

No matter what you have in mind, it goes without saying that all mums should be exempt from cooking (or at least chopping and peeling). Luckily, some of the best kitchen creatives in Cork are on the case.

Here are five fun foodie ideas for making a day of it:

1.  Start the day in style with breakfast, delivered

Rochestown’s Happy Graze specialises in beautifully packed grazing boxes for sharing (keep them in mind for the long summer of outdoor meet-ups ahead).

This year they’ve added a Mother’s Day Breakfast Box to the mix so your Mum can wake up to fresh croissants, waffles, yoghurt, granola, fresh fruit and charcuterie, with a custom Mother’s Day cookie for dunking in her tea later on.

Delish.

How to order: The Happy Graze Breakfast Box is €30 and you can check out a selection of other Mother’s Day treats too here.

2. A brunch picnic in Kinsale

Whether you uncover the patio furniture for the first time this spring or simply spread a picnic blanket on the living room carpet, St Francis Provisions’ Mother’s Day Brunch Picnic is all you need to enjoy an alfresco-inspired feast, whatever the weather.

They’re still finalising the menu but you can expect a delicious combination of cinnabuns, croissants and pastries, savoury tarts, scotch eggs and other goodies, plus a bottle of bubbles to toast the occasion.

How to order: Call or text 083 0636879 to order and keep an eye on Instagram for more details.

3. Mother’s Day with a Michelin twist

At Ahmet Dede’s Michelin-starred kitchen in West Cork, the team is packing up an extra special Mother’s Day menu designed to enjoy en famille.

“We have put this menu together for a family of four, so no matter whether it is adults or children there should be lots to share. We also have put together a selection of wines to enjoy with the menu,” they say.

The dishes are simple and utterly mouthwatering and the line-up includes freshly baked sourdough, red lentil and blue lobster soup, a whole brined and glazed rotisserie chicken, a green salad with pomegranate dressing and red mulberry ice cream with preserved meadowsweet tart for dessert.

How to order: The menu costs €130 and you can pay over the phone or online. It’s available to collect from 12.30pm to 3.30pm and it can also be dropped at the ferry if it’s bound for the nearby islands.

4. A Market Lane meal (served by you)

At Market Lane on Oliver Plunkett Street, the chefs have created a straightforward ‘heat at home’ food box menu for Mother’s Day so as long as you can switch on an oven, you can treat someone special to a culinary treat.

Choose from Ballinwillin Venison Pie with Wisdom Ale, slow-cooked Rosscarbery Bacon and Mustard Glaze or Spiced Veggie Moussaka with Toonsbridge Feta. Puddings include an Orange and Vanilla Bread & Butter Pudding with Custard and Chocolate Cheesecake with Hazelnut Praline.

How to order: A two-course meal, including a range of sides, is €25 per person and there is a children’s menu for €9.50. Place your order via marketlane.ie before 3pm on Thursday, March 11th for Saturday collections.

5. Tea for two

Due to popular demand, The Imperial Hotel is bringing back its delicious Afternoon Tea for takeaway this Mother’s Day weekend. At €29 per person, the super fancy feast includes all the hotel’s classics, from the pistachio sponge cake, white chocolate perfume bottle and rose meringue to the Hereford beef on brioche, oat smoked Irish salmon and the cucumber and yoghurt sandwiches on Arbutus loaf.

The hotel has also put together a ‘To Mum, With Love’ gift (€79) which includes afternoon tea for two, a bottle of Valdo prosecco, a handwritten card and a Mother’s Day activity book.

How to order: The gift is available for collection on March 13th and 14th between 12pm-4pm, with delivery (€10) available up to a 15km radius from the hotel. Pre-order online here or call 021 427 4040.
