Looking for a thoughtful way to brighten someone’s day?
A sustainable Cork business has come up with a unique post-able treat to let someone know you’re thinking of them… and it truly is the gift that keeps on giving.
Run by Kinsale-based gardener, maker and storyteller Éidín Griffin, Rebel Seed offers a selection of grow-able goodies that will transform a flowerbed or window box (or just an unused corner of the garden) into a magical meadow, teeming with life.
Available now in the online shop, you can choose from the Kinsale Hedgerow Mat (€7), which has oxeye daisies, wild carrot, common knapweed and birdsfoot trefoil embedded in it, or the Beefood Flower Mat (€20), which will provide a variety of flowers that give both pollen and nectar to the bees and other beneficial insects.
These include poppies, crimson clover, phacelia, and yellow rattle and a bonus packet of sweet lupin seed.
There’s also a Spring Summer Leafy Food selection that will grow you a glut of coloured peas, large loose leafed lettuce, mixed kale, tasty spinach, tangy rocket and flat-leaf parsley, and the Tiny Meadow (€7), which is a small, plantable bee food flower mat designed for a pot or window box.
Each selection is ideal for first-time gardeners and if you’re sending one to a friend, Éidín will even address it to your chosen destination on your behalf and add a handwritten note.
If you happen to be in Kinsale on Friday, March 26th you can pick up a flower mat with your groceries: “There’ll be a set of small flower mats sitting on the wonderful book swap table outside the Armada.” says Éidín,
“Please feel free to pick one up (instructions are included) and leave a donation in the box. All proceeds for Daffodil Day.”
