Met Éireann says there’s some proper dry, sunny spring weather on the way for Cork

Spring, we’re ready for you.
After what feels like the longest stretch of rain in human history, Cork is finally about to catch a break. And yes, we’re almost afraid to say it out loud… but there’s proper dry, sunny spring weather on the way.
Today (Monday, March 2nd) starts off largely dry and bright with a few sunny spells — a sight for sore eyes across the county. Showers will push in from the west and northwest through the morning, some of them heavy with a chance of hail, before moving eastwards and easing later in the day. Expect highs of 8 to 11 degrees, with breezy conditions at times, especially along the coast.
Tonight turns mainly dry and clear once any lingering showers fade. Temperatures will dip to between -2 and +2 degrees, so there’ll be a sharp frost and some icy patches by morning. It’s a cold one, but we’ll take it if it means blue skies.
And here’s the good news we’ve all been waiting for: Tuesday is shaping up to be a dry, mostly sunny day. After a frosty start, temperatures will climb to between 9 and 12 degrees in light breezes. In other words, it’s giving “coffee in the sun” energy.
High pressure for the weekend
Looking ahead, high pressure is set to have the upper hand for much of the week. While there’ll be some rain on Thursday as a weather front moves through, overall it’s a far cry from the relentless downpours we’ve endured since the start of the year.
Expect a good deal of dry weather, some lovely bright spells, and temperatures around average or slightly above for early spring — though with chilly nights and a touch of frost.
By Friday and into the weekend, it’s mostly dry with sunny spells on the cards again.
After nearly two months of umbrellas, soggy runners, and permanently damp everything, Corkonians might finally get a chance to dust off the sunglasses.
