Met Éireann says it will be mostly dry today ‘with spells of crisp winter sunshine’

It’s a good day to get the dog walked.
After a cold start with frost, icy stretches and some fog patches, Met Éireann says the rest of the day will be “mostly dry with spells of crisp winter sunshine and just the odd isolated shower” in Cork.
With a Status Yellow Ice warning in place for Wednesday night and Thursday, temperatures are set to plunge as low as -4C after dark, ranging between 2C and 6C during the day today.
By Friday it’ll be even colder, with sub-zero temperatures (-5C) by night leading to sharp to severe frost along with icy stretches and daytime temperatures hovering close to zero in most areas.
⚠️A very cold week is forecast bringing severe frosts, icy stretches, and black ice on roads.
❄️ Showers of hail, sleet, and snow are forecast during the second half of the week.

“Some hail, sleet or snow showers expected, but a good deal of dry weather overall.” added the forecaster.
It will be another very cold night on Friday night with a widespread sharp to severe frost.
“Many areas will be dry but there will be showers affecting Atlantic coastal counties at times, many of hail and snow, but falling as rain near the coast. Lowest temperatures of -5 to zero degrees in light west or variable winds.”
