Met Éireann has issued an ice warning as temperatures plummet to minus 4
A Status Yellow warning is in place.
Met Éireann has taken the rare step of issuing a Low Temperature/Ice alert for Ireland, with temperatures expected to plummet below freezing in the coming hours.
“Temperatures will fall to minus 3 or 4 degrees tonight, colder locally away from coasts. This will lead to a widespread hard ground frost and icy surfaces, with potentially dangerous conditions.” said the national forecaster.

A few patches of freezing fog may also develop as the night progresses, while motorists have been warned to expect sharp frost and some icy patches in the morning.
Frost, ice and any fog patches will slowly clear by the afternoon and it will be a mostly dry day with good sunny spells.
The weather alert is valid from 6pm on Saturday until 10am on Sunday, January 3rd, 2021.
