Meet the allotment influencers who want to help you grow your own food

Ever fancied growing your own food?
Two local gardening influencers, Barry Hickey and Maria Young, are helping people realise their allotment dream as they host a special gathering for urban greeners.
On Saturday, October 14th an Autumn Gathering will take place as part of the first-ever National Allotments and Community Gardens Week, which runs until October 21st.
The day will start in the stunning Glen Community Garden at 11am with a talk by its head gardener, Barry Hickey. Later in the day, the group will move to the lush Togher Community Garden for a tour with Maria Young, coordinator of Green Spaces for Health.

Lunch will even be provided by the sumptuous Cork-based vegan fast-food offering MyGoodness.
This event, supported by The Glen Resource Centre, HSE/HAZ, My Goodness Food, and Green Spaces for Health, is designed to raise awareness of allotments and community gardens, highlight how important they are, and detail the huge benefits of community gardening for communities, individuals, and the environment.
