Santa delivered an extra special gift to a Kilkenny couple in Fota over the weekend.

John Maher and his partner Lauren Doheny brought their daughter Lilly to experience Beyond at Fota Island Resort and while Lilly was enchanted by the magic of the Christmas experience, it was her mum who was about to get the biggest surprise of her life.

Here’s how it went down: The family arrived at Santa’s grotto to enjoy a meet and greet with the man of the moment, but after little Lilly received her gift, he produced another present for Lauren.

Inside? A small box containing a sparkling engagement ring.

Lilly looked on as her daddy took the reigns, getting down on one knee to ask the all-important question. Happily, Lauren said yes!

The couple celebrated with a Champagne toast and a photo shoot with old Saint Nick.

We’re hoping Santa will also be asked to officiate on the big day.
