Daydreaming about your next getaway?
It’s hard to know when staycations will be back on the cards, but in the meantime, we’ve been whiling away the long days in lockdown by planning ahead for when things eventually return to normality.
And if it’s “jaw-dropping five-star luxury” you’ve got your heart set on, that’s precisely how guests are describing their stay at The Dockhouse, one of the newest Airbnb options in Ireland’s Gourmet Capital.
The house welcomed its first guests in spring of 2019, quickly attracting Old Head golfers, families and honeymooning couples looking for the ultimate base during their stay in Kinsale.
The property sleeps eight guests, with three bedrooms (two king bedrooms and a third bedroom with two single beds and a bunk bed) and 2.5 bathrooms.
All the mod cons are here, from Netflix and a Bluetooth speaker to the essential Nespresso coffee machine, although there are plenty of options nearby if you prefer the barista’s touch.
Everything you need for meal prep is hidden behind the sleek black doors in the kitchen, with Le Creuset cookware, a Kenwood mixer and a barbecue outside if you fancy grilling (there’s an excellent butcher in the town too if you want to stock up on burgers, steaks and sausages).
Kick back in the Imola swivel chair and enjoy sweeping views of the harbour or take a book out onto the waterfront balcony. A sliding barn door leads to another rear deck for entertaining al fresco.
Nestled into a waterside site at World’s End, the house is a short five-minute stroll from Kinsale’s excellent bars and restaurants, but if travel opens up before hospitality, fear not; there’s plenty to keep you occupied locally.
Visitors can fill their days with walks to iconic sights such as the Old Head of Kinsale and Charles Fort and stroll the area’s many beautiful beaches. Afterwards, head back to your five-star digs for a hot bath and a glass of wine beside the fire pit while you wait for a dinner delivery from a local eatery.
As you may have guessed, views like this don’t come cheap; The Dockhouse is available to rent at around €500 per night via Airbnb.
