In West Cork, a scenic new coffee spot is run by people with additional needs

Big walks call for good coffee and great cake.
And now you can pick up both on your way out to the stunning Sheep’s Head this summer, thanks to a unique new café that’s just opened in Durrus.
The West Cork Jesters Coffee Stop is ably staffed by an enthusiastic team of local people, many of whom have additional needs.
“A number of our members recently did a health and safety course to allow them to work in our little café, they passed with flying colours.” a spokesperson for the project, Susie Nicholson told Yay Cork.
“They are now part of the team who are running and managing this unique little gem which serves you fresh coffee, teas, locally baked cakes and scones in the most picturesque surroundings gazing out over the wildly beautiful Dunmanus Bay.”
When can we visit?
“This project is so empowering for our young adults, each week our Jester representatives get together to be part of the team working that weekend. This is providing an unparalleled experience, especially for our young people who may never have had the opportunity to have a job previously.”
Payment is by donation at the café (you can also donate online here).

“What is most important is that you come and visit us, enjoy the experience, spread the word and know that you are part of this important project. Just by calling in, partaking in a beverage and the most delicious baked goods, you are contributing to a much better, rounder and holistic community,” added Susie.
The West Cork Jesters Coffee Stop in Durrus (P75 AK63) is open from 10am to 2pm on Saturdays and Sundays with plenty of off-road parking, a lovely green space and views to die for. All proceeds go towards the continued upkeep of the Jesters Clubhouse.
