If you like cheese, you need a loaf of this Cork baker’s beetroot bread to go with it

Attention, cheese lovers.
If you’re on the lookout for something sensational to serve alongside your dinner party cheese board (or devour alone in front of the TV) this weekend, take note.
Freshly featured in McKenna’s Guides for 2025, Angela Nöthlings sells delicious organic artisan sourdough bread, buns, bloomers and brownies from her Ryes & Shine stall outside Henchys in St Luke’s on Wednesdays from 12pm to 2pm and again on Saturdays at the Coal Quay Market from 9am to 1pm.

A new addition is a magical little loaf she calls Whisper Sweet Nöthlings. It’s made with beet, dark chocolate and toasted hazelnuts and it’s absolutely stunning as a vehicle for a soft goats cheese.
The bread is made with organic beets from the farm of Caroline Robinson, who also sells her delicious produce in the Coal Quay market on Saturdays.
All of Angela’s breads contain little more than organic flour, water, salt and a fair amount of time and passion. There are no additives, conservatives, or improvers of any kind and all loaves are naturally fermented and don’t contain commercial yeast.

The beetroot loaf is outrageously good eaten fresh, but if you’re buying it a day or two in advance you can pop the slices in the toaster before serving and add cheese for a gooey, melty masterpiece.
FYI: it’s the kind of loaf that you’ll be stealing slices off all day so don’t expect it to last long – pick up a sweet bread with hazelnut or cinnamon filling to devour with your coffee.
