Hundreds of pet owners have signed a petition for a new dog park in Cork city

Anything’s paw-ssible.
Now Cork city dog owners are joining forces to push for a dog park where their canine companions can enjoy some off-lead exercise during their daily walks.
The petition to gather support for a dog park in the city was started by animal lover Mairead Casey, who has opened a conversation with city councillors in an effort to make the idea a reality.
Almost 500 supporters have already added their names to the list.
“There are proposals for dog parks in both Tramore Valley and Ballincollig parks but there is no funding at present for this,” Mairead explained.
“We are asking for smaller enclosed green areas in the parks throughout the city that people would be able to walk to and meet the people and dogs they know. As a result of this, we have managed to get a motion put down to examine if it would be possible to get an enclosed area in Tory Top (Ballyphehane) park for the dogs. This goes before the council on February 22nd.”
Suggestions welcome
Mairead is asking fellow dog owners to sign the petition (available here) and share it with their friends to help raise awareness.
Dog owners are also invited to get in touch with suggestions for other parks or green areas where an enclosed area for dogs could be possible or necessary.
“A lot of the councillors I have spoken to have asked for suggestions,” said Mairead.
“I only know the parks I go to so any suggestions would be helpful. I can make a list and send them to the council for consideration.”
Supporters have suggested a number of other locations that could work, including the pitch near the old Manhattan Pub and the sunken pitch in Togher Park.
