Humpback whale thrills bank holiday whale watchers off West Cork

It was the sight they dreamed of capturing on camera.
And a group of lucky whale watchers got exactly what they wished for on Sunday, when an enormous humpback whale breached the water in front of their eyes.
The group, which set out from Courtmacsherry on the Lady Patricia on a whale watching trip with Atlantic Whale and Wildlife Tours, was treated to a number of special sightings during the trip.
First fin whales of the season this week. Here you have a nice size comparison with a common dolphin “bow riding” in front of this gigantic fin whale. The sea is bursting with wildlife at the moment. Get out there and enjoy it. @atlanticwhales #WorldEnvironmentDay #whale pic.twitter.com/QbOQ7Lw3Iz

“This was one of three humpback whales spotted in the area along with one fin whale and multiple minke whales.” said local TD and tour guide Christopher O’Sullivan, who managed to get the jaw-dropping performance on camera in the image above.
The Seven Heads and the second boat operated by Atlantic Whale and Wildlife Tours, the Lady Louise, can be viewed in the background.
