You’ll have passed it countless times in Fitzgerald’s Park.
But this month there’s a unique chance to get a closer look at the quaint Lord Mayor’s Pavilion at the park entrance when Sample-Studios Visual Arts Programme TACTIC presents a series of Figurative Drawing Workshops as part of Culture Night on Friday, September 18th.
Hosted by Aoife Claffey and Rosalind Spencer, the adults-only workshops will make drawing “accessible to anyone interested in exploring his or her unseen world in a direct and honest way, exploring freer, more intimate forms of expression.”
Participants will sit outdoors while drawing their models, who will be inside the Pavilion, built in 1903 to host visiting dignitaries as they enjoyed the Cork International Exhibition.
Thanks to Daniel Breen, Curator of @CorkPMuseum who took the time today to share some gems about our ‘little gem’ of an exhibition space, The Lord Mayor’s Pavilion which was built in 1903 to receive visiting dignatories to the Cork International Exhibition #creativecork #corkarts pic.twitter.com/srsI7vmmKS

“By working through the window the participants will be adhering to social distancing and working through the glass.” said a spokesperson for Sample-Studios.
“Expressive drawing is about experiencing life from many points. Using the barrier of glass and the models on either side the workshop will be using the seen and the unseen.”
Some of the workshop will be outside, so dress for the weather on the night. Places are limited, so booking is essential – email [email protected] for more details.
