Guests say this boutique Cork hotel serves a ‘bucket list’ breakfast

By Yay Cork July 9, 2025July 7, 2025

They say it’s the most important meal of the day.

But at one small West Cork hotel, breakfast is not just a necessity, it’s an art.

Nestled right on the water in the town of Schull, The Fastnet Hotel boast just three exceptionally luxe rooms, all with whopper views of the sea and private outdoor areas.

Owned by chef Hélène Lynch and her husband, celebrated dentist Dr Edward Lynch, the five-star hideaway has a reputation for spoiling guest throughout their stay, but it’s the decadent breakfast that keeps visitors raving about their stay long after they’ve packed their bags and gone home.

Hélène, who has a wealth of prestigious cookery classes in Michelin-starred restaurants under her belt, treats bleary-eyed morning diners to a festival of breakfast treats, from oven-fresh pastries, fresh fruit with Greek yogurt, fresh scallops, smoked salmon frittatas or Spanish omelettes, toasted breads with tomato and garlic and the best local cheeses.

There are seasonal cakes and muffins, fresh juices, fruit compotes and local honey and guests are encouraged to linger over their meal for a few hours, kick back and take in the views over lashings of coffee.

“Hélène creates memorable wholesome breakfasts: the fusion of delicious goodness from the terroir of West Cork and a ‘clin d’oeil’ to her French roots – croissants, pains au chocolat, pains aux raisins, financiers… (who bakes from scratch in a guest house?).” one happy guest posted in a review.

There are three beautiful rooms to choose from The Garden Room, The Goat Island Studio and The Fastnet Room and prices start from €645 per night per couple including breakfast.

And that’s not all; you can also arrange for brunch or dinner to be served for your group during your stay to make the most of it.

Recent guest John G: “Do yourself a favour if you have dinner reservations elsewhere, cancel them. This will be your best dining experience in Ireland.”
