You might have spotted it already.

A big red box has popped up in Tramore Valley Park and it’s filled with fun sports equipment that the public can use free of charge.

Equipment currently in the BoxdUp locker includes a football, volleyball, activator poles, two pétanque sets, frisbees and a rugby ball. All you have to do to access them is download the BoxUp app and register your details using a photo ID, then you’re ready to take what you need to play and return it when you’re finished.

Part of the Active Cities project, these boxes seek to promote getting those who are least active out to enjoy the great outdoors. They also mean you don’t need to haul balls and gear along with you if you’re walking to Tramore Valley Park.

“These include a new Fitwalk trail, outdoor table tennis tables, two outdoor volleyball nets, as well as a permanent orienteering course and pétanque area, both of which are awaiting installation.”
