FYI: A Status Yellow Rain, Sleet and Snow warning for Cork kicks in at noon today

Take extreme care out there.
That’s the advice for anyone leaving the house today as Storm Goretti brings rain, heavy at times, which will turn to sleet and snow in places.
A Status Yellow Rain/Sleet/Snow warning for Cork has been issued by Met Eireann and will come into effect from noon today, Thursday, January 8th until 8pm on Thursday, January 8th.
Accumulations of snow are possible in elevated spots and potential impacts may include hazardous travelling conditions, spot flooding, poor visibility and icy patches.
“Cork County Council’s roads treatment programme will continue treating Priority routes as resources allow.” said a Council spokesperson.
“However, due to the low temperatures, probability of snow widespread icy patches and difficult travelling conditions can be expected even on treated roads. All road users are advised to take extreme care if travelling.”
Cork City Council has also implemented its Roads Winter Plan with crews salting roads. Crews will be on standby during the warning.

If you must hit the road, the advice is to slow down, allow extra time and be aware of other roads users, especially vulnerable road users such as pedestrians and cyclists.
Be mindful of icy surface conditions and don’t forget to check on vulnerable and isolated neighbours.
