Friends reveal late chef Scott Gallagher quietly patched up a vandalised mural in 2020

“Not on my watch.”
In May 2020, after the brutal killing of George Floyd by a police officer, communities around the globe took to the streets to denounce racism and police brutality directed against minorities.
In Cork, a mural sprung up overnight, covering the wooden fencing on Sullivan’s Quay in tall, clear letters.
It read “Black Lives Matter. End Direct Provision”.
Cork DJ and RedFM presenter Stevie Grainger, recently took to Twitter to share a memory about this mural and its connection to local man Scott Gallagher (30), who sadly died in a tragic accident last week.
“A few years ago, a bunch of Cork teens, under the guidance of Helen & Claire, reacted to the George Floyd murder with this mural that soon became iconic,” said Stevie G.
“Predictably,’ he noted “it got vandalised. But another local artist, Scott Gallagher came back in the middle of the night & fixed it. He later messaged me “Not on my watch”.

Scott was well known in the community as a friendly and generous man who loved all kinds of art forms, especially street art and music.
“This gesture summed him up well,” said Stevie.
He was also gifted creatively, the Cork DJ told followers. Scott worked as a chef in the popular restaurant Market Lane on Oliver Plunkett street. His creative talents extended beyond food, as he was also a music player and even designed his own jackets.
As tributes continue to pour in for Scott on social media, there are a few things we’re sure of: He was a kind man who stood up for others and he will be missed by a lot of people around Cork.
