For Cork photographers, the dog portrait business is brisk… and getting busier

Do you have a fur baby?
Have you ever considered booking a full-blown photoshoot for your pint-sized fluffball?
If you have, you’re in excellent company; the world of pet portraits has witnessed a remarkable surge in popularity.
In fact, Irish animal lovers are collectively showering their beloved pets with affection to the tune of over €600,000 per day and Bella Daly, a Glanmire-based photographer specialising in newborns and moms-to-be, has had a front-row seat to this furry phenomenon.
The snapper has now added pet photography to her repertoire and she’s never been busier.

“Pets bring us so much joy and comfort,” she told Yay Cork.
“They are such an important part of our lives and should be celebrated just as much as human family members.”
And the numbers back her up. In 2021, a whopping 52 percent of households had a pet, and an impressive 20 percent of those households decided to adopt their four-legged companions during the pandemic.

Bella, who has her own trio of prized pooches Ted, Trigger, and Biscuit, outlined that including dogs in family photos is a way of honouring their place in our hearts and homes.
“If you bring your furry friend along to a newborn session, you are going to get some shots of them being a star too. After all, they are such a big part of the family and deserve a little piece of the limelight,” she said.
Awwwww.
