Good food will get us through.

While indoor dining is banned as part of Level 3 restrictions, many of Cork’s independent eateries are pulling out all the stops to keep the show on the road with new takeaway dishes.

If you’re keen to support local businesses during one of the toughest periods the Irish hospitality industry has ever faced, there really isn’t a more enjoyable way to go about it.

Here are five marvellous takeaway dishes to eat this week:

1. THE PASTRAMI REUBEN AT ST FRANCIS PROVISIONS

Heading out for a walk along the Old Head? You’ll need sustenance first; swing by St Francis Provisions in Kinsale and pick up their new pastrami Ruben; home-cured meat, Gubbeen cheese, sauerkraut, special sauce and pickles on fresh sourdough.

Team it with a pot of soup from the daily specials menu.

2. A DIM SUM FEAST AT O’MAHONY’S

Fancy a takeaway with a difference? O’Mahony’s just unveiled a mouthwatering Dim Sum menu for takeaway this weekend.

Swing by between 5pm and 8.30pm on Friday or Saturday and pick up the €25 box, which contains miso soup, cashew, chilli, garlic, matsu slaw, egg fried rice, salad and a selection of meaty dumplings, gyoza and potstickers. Call 086 831 6879 to place your order.

3. THE COTTAGE PIE AT THE FARMGATE

Visiting a friend at lunchtime? Bring along a Cottage Pie for two from The Farmgate in the English Market. A warming dish of Irish beef slow-cooked with carrots and celery and topped with mashed potato, it’s available for €9.90 on their Click & Collect Menu here.

If you really like them, nab a Bread & Butter Pudding and custard for afters.

4. THE CRAB CROSTINI AT DOCKLAND

Who said takeaway couldn’t be fancy? Wow your other half with Crab Crostini from Dockland on Lapp’s Quay.

If you’re going all out, team it with a tenderstem broccoli Ceasar salad topped with crunchy parmesan crumble and toasted hazelnuts from the Dockland Deli to go menu. Orders on 021 4273987 or by email at [email protected]
