Expect some heavy rain across Cork today as Met Éireann issues cold snap advisory

Winter has officially begun.
As Met Éireann warns we’re in for a spell of cold and wintry weather across the country from today onwards and throughout much of this week, it looks like Cork is also in for a few heavy showers later today.
Widespread outbreaks of rain, heavy at times, with the potential for spot flooding, are expected across Munster. Afternoon highs will range from 6 to 11 degrees with gusty winds near the coast.
According to forecasters, on Tuesday, the weather will turn much colder as an Arctic airmass sinks over the country from the north.
Today, rain in Munster & Connacht will spread northeastwards, becoming widespread later this afternoon. ☔️

“Daytime temperatures will often range around 2 to 6 degrees with night-time temperatures widely falling below freezing, bringing widespread frost and ice,” explained Met Éireann’s Deputy Head of Forecasting Liz Coleman.
“The northerly airflow will also bring showers of sleet and snow, these most frequent over the northern half of the country but there is potential for some showers to reach further south. These conditions will bring some hazardous travelling conditions, travel disruptions and poor visibility.”
The big chill
Tuesday night will be dry in most areas with clear spells and lowest temperatures of -3 to +1 degrees with frost and icy patches.
Wednesday will be cold and mainly dry with sunny spells. Frost will gradually clear but will linger in some sheltered areas and Wednesday night will be dry and clear with lowest temperatures of -3 to +1 degrees with frost and icy patches.
On Thursday, frost and ice will again be slow to thaw, perhaps lingering all day in some parts. Many areas will be dry and cold, however, with spells of sunshine.
