Everything to know before hitting Cork Carnival of Science this weekend

Brought to you by Cork Carnival of Science.
Pack a picnic and some sunscreen.
If you’re a parent of a tiny human with boundless energy and a penchant for asking “Why?!?” (for the zillionth time today): Mark. Your. Calendar.
Because the Cork Carnival of Science is blasting back into Fitzgerald’s Park this weekend, June 7th and 8th, 2025, and trust us, you’re going to want to be there.
This epic, FREE, two-day festival (brought to you by the brainy bunch at Research Ireland and Cork City Council) is transforming one of Cork’s prettiest green spaces into the ultimate outdoor science playground from 11asm to 6pm on both days. We’re talking proper explosions (the safe kind, obviously), mind-bending discoveries, and enough “aha!” moments to keep those little brains buzzing long after the glitter has settled.

With 75,000 previous attendees (yes, it’s that big!), it’s Ireland’s largest outdoor STEM party – whether your mini-me is obsessed with dinosaurs, robots, or just the pure, unadulterated joy of making things fizz. Get ready to outsource some of that scientific curiosity… and maybe even learn a thing or two yourself.
Here’s everything you need to know ahead of the weekend:
Opening times
The Cork Carnival of Science 2025 will run at Fitzgerald’s Park from 11am to 6pm on Saturday and Sunday June 7th and 8th. Entry is free and attendees are welcome to bring food and drinks.

Highlights of this two-day weekend of wonder include:
- Electrifying live science shows in the Circus Top and Stretch Tents
- Hands-on experiments and workshops to test, tinker, and create
- Fascinating exhibits showcasing real-world science in action
- Roaming science performers bringing unexpected experiments, gravity defying stunts and bubble magic to the crowd
- Nature-focused activities exploring ecosystems, wildlife, and the environment
- STEM challenges that puzzle, provoke, and inspire
Where to eat
Beyond the scientific spectacle, families can soak up the atmosphere with street food stalls, picnic areas, lush gardens, the Cork Public Museum, a huge playground, and on-site facilities, making it the perfect place for an exciting, educational, and entertaining day out.
Will there be water stations for top-ups?
Yes! It’s important to stay hydrated. Free water fill-up stations will be located at the entrance to Fitzgerald’s Park (there is also a First Aid station here) and on Innovation Way near the playground.
Where are the loos?
The public restrooms will be located at the back of the park near the river beyond the café.
Will there be a quiet area?
Yes. Cork Carnival of Science is dedicated to making science accessible, engaging, and inclusive. Sign language interpretation will be available at live shows, and a quiet zone near the Sky Garden will provide a calm space for those who prefer a less sensory-stimulating environment.
