EAT THIS: 5 of Cork’s most outrageously delicious new breakfast items

It’s finally cosy jumper season.
And that means it’s time to bid farewell to those light summer bites and dive headfirst into autumn indulgence.
We’re talkin’ towering stacks of pancakes, oozing with chocolate and dolloped with fresh cream, and waffles the size of small European countries.
This season, we’re leaving no room for restraint.
We’ve scoured the city to bring you the most outrageously delicious morning feast that will have you embracing the crunch of leaves and the scent of cinnamon like never before.
Buckle up and set your alarm for dawn on your morning off:
1. The new croissant at The Bookshelf, The Elysian and South Mall
If there’s one thing worth getting out of bed early for, it’s a decent croissant. At The Bookshelf’s two city spots, you can now get your hands on talented chef Diana Barreira’s brand-new Matcha and Coconut Croissant, best dunked in a hot coffee before devouring.
2. The Pancakes at Perry Street Market
With locations in the city, Ringaskiddy, Grange, Mahon Point, and Little Island, it’s now easier than ever to find yourself a heaving plate of Perry Street’s magnificent pancakes.
Smothered in chocolate and pillowy fresh cream, they serve them all day. You can add fruit if you’re trying to be healthy.
3. The Breakfast Special at Naturally Nourished, Penrose Dock
Who said porridge has to be boring? At this Penrose Dock eatery, you can still feel smug about getting all that oaty goodness first thing, while simultaneously delighting your tastebuds with a festival of toppings. The autumn special porridge comes with house-salted caramel sauce, whipped coconut and organic cacoa nibs.
4. The Johnny Cakes at Liberty Grill, Washington Street
Topped with seasonal goodies like rhubarb and cherry or drizzled in organic maple syrup, the Liberty Grill’s Johnny Cakes are a New England cornmeal pancake that comes topped with fruit and soy yogurt. You can order them for brekkie and for brunch too; they’re served from 9am – 3.30pm, Monday to Saturday.
5. The Bacon French Toast at Greenwich, Caroline Street
When the weather’s miserable, the cosy glow inside the window of Caroline Street’s Greenwich is already hard to resist. Add their legendary Bacon French Toast into the mix and it’s impossible. Thick-cut bread is enrobed in a delicate vanilla-infused batter, griddled to golden perfection, and topped with maple bacon, served with a drizzle of syrup. Each bite is a crispy, smoky pillow.
