6 really great Cork wine bars we’re grabbing a glass from this month

Wine is our favourite type of juice cleanse.
Sometimes it’s not peace and mindful activities we need, but drama, piping hot (metaphorical) tea and a whole lot of bougie Shiraz.
And there is absolutely nothing more appealing right now, after a hectic start to September, than sitting with friends in a cosy nook in one of Cork’s gorgeous winebars and trying out the fanciest wine on the menu.
We’ve earned it, dammit.
So if you’re up for a little adventure and ready to expand your vin-palette, here are some of the wine bars you should grab a glass from this autumn:
1. Meades 126
You’ve probably passed this gem without even noticing it. Nestled within the confines of an old Georgian building on Oliver Plunkett Street, Meade’s 126 is an atmospheric hideaway with a surprisingly spacious interior and authentic, rustic, old-school decor.
But what truly sets Meade’s apart is its expertly curated wine list. You can also get yourself a mixed board here if you’re feeling peckish between sips. Meades 126 is located at 126 Oliver Plunkett St and is open Thursday to Saturday, from 6pm-12am.

2. Moody Cafe Vin
There are fewer places we’d rather be, tapas sprawled on the table in front of us, rosé swinging wildly in one hand as we cackle our way through some very unlikely but entertaining gossip.
There are plenty of reasons to head up to Moody Cafe Vin on Lower Glanmire Road but here are just two: their incredible wine selection and the pear with blue cheese. You’re welcome.
Grab a seat outside when the weather is fine and you’re golden.

3. L’attitude 51
Heaven is a place in Cork, and its epicentre is L’Attitude 51. Nestled in a charming historic building along Union Quay, L’Attitude 51 is a wine bar specialising in natural wines. There’s plenty of seating inside for when the weather turns, as well as outdoor seating along the picturesque riverfront for when the sun makes an appearance or your bestie demands a vape.
And you’ll find no wine snobs here—just a friendly team ready to share their expertise and find your perfect wine. Top off a glass with delectable offerings like spiced beef tongue, mussels with nduja sauce, a sumptuous charcuterie board, or focaccia to really treat yourself.

4. MacCurtain Wine Cellar
The vibrant hum of chatter and laughter in MacCurtain Wine Cellar is punctuated only by the clinking of glasses and the opening of the door as would-be customers clamber inside looking to grab a seat.
‘Tis a busy spot, but worth the journey. If you’re a bit nervous around your wines, you’ll find plenty of help from the staff and owner Sean- an experienced sommelier- who are at all times armed with recommendations and menus.

5. Nell’s Wine Bar
This one’s a real favourite among Cork’s dedicated oenophiles.
Nell’s offers an adventurous mouthwatering menu with a burst of flavours in each dish, showcasing expert ingredient knowledge and innovation. Whether you’re up for aperitivo or a full dinner, this is your go-to spot.
Their wine selection is said to be daring but definitely delightful, and their small plates are perfect for solo snacking or shared meals with raucous friends.

6. St Luke’s Wine Tavern
Not many things take us upalong the hill from town, but St. Luke’s Wine Tavern is certainly worth the climb. Whether you’re dining indoors or enjoying the lovely outdoor seating, the generous wine pours and warm, sunny service create a delightful atmosphere.
The tavern offers a relaxed ambience, old-school decor and Mediterranean-inspired dishes paired perfectly with their wine selection. If you’re really feeling hungry hungry after a few glasses, we definitely recommend the pizza, which you should top off with the white chocolate and mixed berry Eton mess…just because.
