Drop by Douglas Street for a mug of soup as part of a real Cork Christmas Eve tradition

It’s all going ahead as planned.
If you were wondering if the traditional mugs of soup will still be served at Nano Nagle Place on Christmas Eve this year, there’s good news on that front.
On Tuesday, December 24th, Nano Nagle Place and Good Day Deli will continue a centuries-old tradition by offering visitors a warm mug of soup and mulled apple juice outside the main entrance on Douglas Street in return for a voluntary donation to Cork Simon Community.

When Nano Nagle founded the Presentation Community on Christmas Eve 1775, she celebrated by hosting a Christmas dinner for the poor, a tradition her Sisters continued down the years.
In 2017 the tradition was revived and this year the event will be enhanced by the SHEP Community Choir, who will be ‘singing their hearts out for Simon’ with a selection of Christmas Carols on the front plaza.
Soup and mulled apple juice will be served for two hours from 11am to 1pm on Christmas Eve.
Everyone is welcome and the gardens and Heritage Centre will also be open (free of charge) to the public on the morning.
