Cork’s ‘noisy and rebellious culture’ is the star of this art-punk screening and gig

We’re a noisy bunch on Leeside.
And if new wave post-punk music and film float your boat, there’s a gig worth shouting about happening at the Triskel this Friday, August 26th.
Earlier this year, the Triskel announced that Abreáin Blake of Pretty Happy had been appointed as one of the WRITE RECORD PERFORM Artists for 2022. As part of the residency, Abreáin has spent the last few months working with bandmates Arann Blake and Andy Killian to develop exciting new work and they’re now ready to share that with audiences.
Together they have created Leeside Creatures, an audio-visual piece that explores the lineage of Cork Post-Punk through the venues of its past. The documentary will be screened at Triskel followed by a live music performance by the band on Friday at 8pm.

“Ironically, we were first informed about our connection to Cork’s Post-Punk lineage before we had any knowledge of it,” said Blake.
“People would approach us after gigs and talk about how much bands like Nun Attax and Stump must have shaped our sound. But, in reality, we had not listened to these bands.
“Somehow, without meaning it, we had picked up their mantle. This audio and visual piece will look at Cork’s innate musical DNA and how an unofficial noisy and rebellious culture has permeated the city for the past thirty years.”
Tickets are €15/€13 and are on sale now at triskelartscentre.ie.
