Cork’s freshest street art is a welcoming message for Ukrainian refugees

From Kyiv to Chaoimh
The crew at the People’s Republic of Cork have unveiled a new addition to their Cork street art collection. And this time, they have a very special message for incoming Ukrainian refugees who will soon arrive Leeside.
“The cyrillic text on top says ‘Welcome to Cork’ in Ukrainian,” the group explained. “The lower text is in the Irish language and says “Welcome to Páirc Uí Kyiv”, this is a pun on the name of the local sports stadium called “Páirc Uí Chaoimh”.
The PROC wanted to send a message that Ukrainians are welcome in the Rebel County:
“This is where Cork play their ‘home’ games and is a reminder to encourage people living in Cork to make our city and county, feel like a ‘home’ for Ukrainians arriving here.”

The new artwork, designed by local artist Tom Doig, is located on the South Mall and joins the growing number of humourous, political and colourful electrical boxes that decorates our city.
