Cork Weather: Cold and wet for the week but turning much milder by Friday

It’s a proper mixed bag of weather on the way for Cork this week.
And if you’re stepping out today, you’ll want the coat zipped all the way up.
Monday is shaping up to be blustery and showery, with rain sweeping across the county and some of those showers turning heavy at times. There’s even a chance of hail early on, just to keep things interesting. Temperatures will struggle between 7 and 10 degrees, and with moderate to fresh westerly winds — strong near the coast — it’ll feel that bit colder again.
Tonight, things calm down briefly. Showers will clear early on, leaving a cold, dry and mostly clear night for a time. But don’t get too comfortable — cloud will thicken again from the southwest later. Temperatures are set to dip to between -1 and +1 degrees, so expect a widespread frost and a few icy patches by morning. Definitely a scrape-the-car kind of start.
Blustery today with widespread showers at first, heavy in places with a chance of hail☔️💨
Drier & brighter weather will spread from the north through the afternoon as showers ease⛅️. However, heavier showers will continue in Munster🌧️

Tuesday begins cold, dry and cloudy, with frost and icy stretches lingering for a while. Rain and drizzle will push up from the southwest through the morning and afternoon, possibly turning to sleet on higher ground. It’ll also become increasingly blustery, with easterly winds strengthening — especially along the coast. Highs will only reach 4 to 6 degrees, so it’s staying chilly.
Unsettled for the week
Looking further ahead, it remains unsettled nationwide through midweek, with rain and showers never too far away. Wednesday starts wet again, with some sleet possible in parts of the country, though Cork should gradually brighten up later with scattered showers. It’ll still feel cool, particularly early in the week.
By Thursday, there’ll be more cloud and patchy rain at first, but brighter spells will develop later, especially from the west. Temperatures begin to edge up slightly in the south.
The good news? Friday brings a noticeable shift. While it’ll be dull and blustery with rain spreading across the country early on, temperatures will climb to a much milder 9 to 12 degrees. It won’t be perfectly dry — there’ll still be showers about — but it’ll feel far less wintry than the start of the week.
As for the weekend, current signs point to more rain at times, but temperatures will stay on the mild side — a welcome change after this cold and frosty spell.
