Cork mayor pens letter demanding the return of Liam MacCarthy Cup from Limerick

We love to see it.
Mayor of Cork City Colm Kelleher has raised the stakes ahead of this weekend’s All Ireland Senior Hurling Final between Cork and Limerick.
In a pretty ballsy move, the Fianna Fáil councillor has written to his counterpart, Mayor Daniel Butler of Limerick, to demand the return of the Liam MacCarthy cup to its home in Cork.
“I believe you have something that belongs to us,” the letter began, before describing Liam as “about 16 inches high and silver.”
“Down the years, there have been sightings of him in Kilkenny, Galway, Tipperary, Clare for some reason (??) And now, I believe, Limerick.” Limerick have won the All-Ireland twice in recent years, both in 2018 and last year.
“One can only imagine that he has found it quite distressing not being back on Leeside in over 16 years. As I’m sure you are aware and understand, there is no place like home and there’s certainly no place like Cork!”
“Can I ask you, as Mayor of Limerick, to arrange to bring Liam to Croke Park on Sunday for collection? I will arrange for him to be picked up around 5.30pm and rightfully returned to Leeside. Many thanks for looking after him. It won’t be forgotten.”
The full letter can be seen below, shared by the Lord Mayor’s own Twitter account.
