Cork kids can enjoy a day of music, photography and art workshops for free at Triskel
By Yay Cork
Forget passive gallery visits—this summer, it’s all about getting stuck in.
Triskel Arts Centre is putting creativity and play centre stage, with a packed programme of hands-on workshops designed for kids, families, and curious young makers in June.
At the heart of it all is artist-in-residence Chris Finnegan, who is developing Play This Way in the Triskel Sample Project Space. His practice explores how play and art collide, drawing inspiration from child-centred approaches like Montessori and Reggio Emilia, as well as “loose parts” play theory—basically, creative freedom with whatever materials are at hand.
He’ll lead workshops as part of Cruinniú na nÓg, the national day of free creativity for under-18s, alongside Stevie G, Sarah Buckley and Aoife Claffey.
Together, they’ll guide children through photography, music production, textiles, and printmaking in a full day of creative exploration on Saturday, June 6th.
Want to go along?
The workshops are designed for 8–12-year-olds and are fully hands-on—think beats, loops and sound design with Stevie G, experimental fabric and stitching with Sarah Buckley, collective photo-based “playspace” design with Finnegan, and portrait printmaking with Claffey.
All materials are provided, and each session is led by a practising artist. Tickets are free, but booking is essential over here.
