The new addition will boast 15 extra classrooms.
Kinsale Community School has announced that the contracts for the appointment of the design team for a €14m extension were signed today.
The plans include two science labs; a design graphics room, two multimedia rooms, a meeting room, a music room, a fitness lab, and a library.
Once building begins, the project should take around 18 months to complete.
School principal Fergal McCarthy described the news as a positive and exciting development and paid tribute to the Department of Education for the commitment that it has shown to the school in terms of a significant infrastructural investment.
“Kinsale Community School is a centre of excellence where the collaboration of staff occurs on a daily basis to deliver a quality teaching and learning experience for the students at the school.” said Mr McCarthy.
“The impressive educational facility which already exists at Kinsale is to be further enhanced through additional specialist facilities which will be of immense benefit not just for our school community but for the benefit of the entire community of Kinsale and its environs.”
