Christmas trees are going up all over town today (and we wholeheartedly approve)

We could all do with a bit of festive cheer.
It might only be the beginning of November, but Cork City Council is getting a head start on the decor, with Christmas trees and twinkling lights going up in a number of locations over the coming days.

A handsome tree is already standing proudly on Emmet Place, with another fine fir over on the plaza near Parnell Bridge. More trees will be appearing in the coming days.
As city traders make tentative plans to reopen in December, depending on whether Level 5 restrictions are eased on December 1st, Cork County Council has unveiled a plan to make sure the festive season is as special as possible in Cork’s towns and villages too, with a variety of socially-distanced events and ideas to raise everyone’s spirits.
A Real Cork Christmas (ARCC) is a new campaign that will be rolled out in Cork towns and villages in the run-up to December 25th.
The entire county community is invited to safely celebrate the season by lighting up a window in their home or business as Cork County Council lights its premises across the county at 7pm on Thursday, November 12th, “in a moment of hope and solidarity”.
Saw my first Christmas tree this evening in Bweeng County Cork. I was happy to see 🎄let’s have more of this sort of thing. #Christmas2020 #corkcounty #Cork

While the centre is a lot quieter than usual, slowly but surely #Cork is becoming festive and ready for Christmas. ⛄️🎄🎅🏼#Lockdown2 @PhotosCork #ireland pic.twitter.com/HxfsoTnUuu

Slí Na Croí Ám Nollaig will see red and white ribbons added to community walkways “to symbolise community solidarity during this challenging period”.
Meanwhile, Cork Christmas Tree Farm is getting ready for a busy year, with harvesting set to begin in Currabeg, Ovens in the coming week.

The farm employs a flock of Shrophshire Sheep to tackle weeds without the use of chemicals.
