Book an off-grid getaway in the Black Shack, a new Cork hideaway (with a private jetty)

Are you ready to unplug for a few days?
The glow of moonlight on the water will be the only light source to interrupt your slumber at the Black Shack, a brand new off-grid Airbnb now taking bookings in Skibbereen.
Run by hosts Andrew and Olivia, who live just 2km away with their little boy, Archie, the romantic tiny house is set on the seafront with your own private jetty boasting views of Heir Island and The Beacon in Baltimore in the distance.
The doty dwelling consists of two cabins, one with your own private bathroom and a gas-powered shower with a view and a second cabin with a double bed, kitchenette and gas-fired stove.
A five-day cooler box with ice is provided to keep all your essentials (and booze) cold, while solar panels provide light and enough power to charge a mobile phone.
You can bring enough goodies and groceries to sustain you through your stay or hit the local fish shop for the fresh catch of the day to cook on the barbecue grill.
“Our Little Black Shack is the perfect escape for couples or singles in search of the refreshing natural life.” say the hosts.
“The lack of Wi-Fi, TV and electricity takes you back to nature. Take yourself off for a coastal break with a difference. You’ll return home again with the wind in your sails fully restored.”
‘We had barbecues for breakfast, lunch and dinner’
Despite only being open since the summer, the Black Shack has been earning rave reviews from guests:
“I think this is probably my favourite AirBnB we have ever stayed in,” said Becky, who visited in September.
“Literally steps from the sea, with your own pontoon to swim from. It is the perfect getaway, completely private and away from the world. The hosts have really thought of everything while keeping the cabin wonderfully minimal. Can’t wait to return.”
“Five star doesn’t begin to cover this Airbnb,” said Christine, who stayed in August.
“The location is absolutely incredible, sitting right on the sea with a wooden pontoon to jump off for a swim. The house is set up beautifully and is so cosy and comfortable. We had barbecues for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.”
If you do fancy an excursion during your break, there’s a ferry to Heir island just five minutes walk away. Overnight prices for the Black Shack start at €155 on Airbnb, with dates available in June and September.
