Bláithí: A new creative venture blossoms in Cork with a ‘zine launch at Myo

We’ll be looking out for this one.
Bláithí (pronounced Blaw-hee), is a new art and language ‘zine founded by students Sarah Thompson O’Sullivan and Lavie Olupon, two co-creators who wanted to cultivate something meaningful, creative, and rooted in culture.
The name Bláithí is derived from the Irish word bláthanna, which means “flower” in English, but with a personal touch—little flower. The project will be launched on February 1st at Myo café on Pope’s Quay.
The inspiration for the name stems from Lavie’s time spent in the Gaeltacht in Spiddal, Galway, where her host mother’s madra beag (little dog) was named Bláithí.

While Lavie’s connection to the name is deeply personal, Sarah’s passion for the Irish language played an equally pivotal role.
A student of English at UCC, Sarah also studies Gaeilge through the module GA1003 Bunstaidéar ar Theanga agus ar Chultúr na Gaeilge. She felt strongly that the project should embrace the Irish language and its culture, which led to the decision to make Bláithí an as Gaeilge project from the outset.
“Our ‘zine will feature poetry, art, short stories/essays and prose in particular the voices of young people.” the friends told us,
“On our launch in Myo (34 Pope’s Quay) on February 1st from 5pm-7pm we will have the ‘zines for sale, and each entry will have a complimentary raffle ticket for free copies and other prizes, all in aid of Cork Penny Dinners.”
Everyone’s welcome so pop in for a brew and support.
