Beetlejuice, Batman and Burton: Triskel celebrates the king of gothic cinema

Cork film fans are in for a gloriously gothic August.
Over on South Main Street, Triskel is rolling out a season celebrating the weird and wonderful world of Tim Burton.
Dubbed The Fantastical Cinema of Tim Burton, the Saturday night series showcases the director’s first five feature films, tracing the evolution of one of Hollywood’s most distinctive visual storytellers.
The season kicks off with Burton’s breakthrough hit Pee-wee’s Big Adventure, before diving into the gloriously chaotic afterlife of Beetlejuice (August 8th), Michael Keaton’s iconic turn in Batman (August 15th), the haunting fairytale Edward Scissorhands (August 22nd) and concluding with the darkly stylish Batman Returns (August 29th).
All screenings begin at 7pm.

Known for his gothic imagination, quirky characters and unmistakable visual style, Burton has spent four decades creating films that blur the line between fantasy, horror and comedy. From striped suits and scissor hands to Gotham City’s shadowy streets, his work remains as influential as ever.
The season is part of Triskel’s acclaimed cinema programme, curated by Head of Cinema Chris O’Neill, whose themed retrospectives have become a favourite with Cork film lovers.
Whether you’re revisiting Burton’s classics or discovering them on the big screen for the first time, it’s a chance to experience some of modern cinema’s most imaginative films exactly as they were meant to be seen. Book your seat (€11) here.
